OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. (November 3, 2016) — This season, holiday shoppers can help fight for action on climate change policy when they shop for stylish, durable and highly functional belts from Arcade Belt Co. During its third annual White Friday promotion, Nov. 25-28, Arcade will donate $5 of every belt purchase to Protect Our Winters’ education, advocacy and activism programs.
Based in a Lake Tahoe region besieged by drought, Arcade started White Friday in 2014 in an effort to encourage outdoor enthusiasts to think about how their dollars are being used. Arcade Belt Co. co-founder Tristan Queen hopes the promotion will encourage consumers to back a cause that is ultimately important to those who enjoy the outdoors—and avoid fighting for breathing room in crowded department stores.
“Climate change is the most significant long-term threat facing our industry and our world. While retail mob scenes are entertaining on YouTube, we get more kicks out of knowing our customers are enjoying time with family and friends, all while supporting an organization that drives real change on climate policy,” states Queen. “We want to encourage conservation of the places we love and we want others to join us. Helping open the door for others to contribute to POW’s efforts is the positive change we hope to create.”
Protect Our Winters (POW) is a Boulder, Colorado-based organization comprised of diehards, professional athletes and industry brands mobilizing the outdoor sports community to lead the charge towards positive climate action. Money raised during Arcade’s White Friday promotion will go to support POW’s educational initiatives, advocacy, and community-based programs.
